Earn an Associate In Claims (AIC) designation to improve your technical claim handling ability!

Claim professionals handle a wide variety of claims, including property, auto, workers compensation, and bodily injury claims. Earning the AIC designation can improve your technical claim handling abilities as well as your communication and negotiation skills.

You can take the standard multiline approach, which covers personal lines as well as commercial lines property and liability, or you can choose among four specialty paths if one of them would better suit your career needs.

The AIC program was developed with the technical and financial assistance of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters. Many companies use it as an official part of their claims training programs.


Curriculum

Candidates may select from one of the following five paths to earn the AIC designation:
  • Multiline: AIC 33, 34, 35, and 36
  • Personal Lines Auto and Liability: AIC 33, 34, and 36, plus either CPCU 553, 555 or INS 22
  • Personal Lines Homeowners: AIC 33, 35, and 36, plus either CPCU 553, 555 or INS 22
  • Commercial Lines Liability: AIC 33, 34, 36, and CPCU 552
  • Commercial Lines Property: AIC 33, 35, 36, and CPCU 551

  • AIC 34: Workers' Compensation and Managing Bodily Injury Claims
  • AIC 35: Property Loss Adjusting
  • AIC 36: Casualty Claim Practice
  • CPCU 551: Commercial Property Risk Management and Insurance
  • CPCU 552: Commercial Liability Risk Management and Insurance
  • CPCU 553: Survey of Personal Risk Management, Insurance, and Financial Planning
  • CPCU 555: Personal Risk Management and Property-Liability Insurance
  • INS 22: Personal Insurance

Examination Requirements
  • Each AIC (and INS) exam is a two-hour, 85 question, objective (multiple choice), computer-administered exam
  • The exams for the CPCU courses are each a three-hour, computer-administered essay exam
  • Your results will be provided immediately upon the completion of your exam.
  • National exams are given at local testing centers during the following two-month windows:
    • January 15 - March 15
    • April 15 - June 15
    • July 15 - September 15
    • October 15 - December 15
  • Exam fees will apply

Additional Requirements

Candidates are not required to meet experience or education requirements to attain this designation.


Continuing Education Requirements

A designee is not required to fulfill any annual continuing education requirements, nor are there any annual fees for a designee to maintain the designation.
