PRELICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR RESIDENT AGENTS

Insurance Licensing is regulated at the state level and, as such, each state government establishes its own insurance licensing requirements and examination procedures. Below are general prelicensing requirements in the state of Georgia, and those for each line of insurance:

General Requirements
  • A candidate's application for license shall include sponsorship by an insurer licensed to do business in this state
  • Candidates must complete an approved prelicensing course, this requirement may be met in either a Classroom or Online format
  • Candidates must pass the required examination for licensure within 12 months of the completion of the prelicensing course, then must apply for licensure within 12 months from receiving a passing grade on the examination
Adjuster License
  • Candidates must complete an approved 40-hour prelicensing Classroom course
  • Prelicensing Course Exemption - none
Life, Health and Accident License
  • Candidates must complete an approved 40-hour prelicensing Classroom or Online course
  • Prelicensing Course Exemption - Applicants for licenses in lines or sublines of life or health insurance who hold the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation are exempt
Limited Subagent License
  • Candidates must complete an approved 20-hour prelicensing Classroom course
  • Prelicensing Course Exemption - none
Property and Casualty License
  • Candidates must complete an approved 40-hour prelicensing Classroom or Online course
  • Prelicensing Course Exemption - Applicants for licenses in lines or sublines of property or casualty insurance who hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation are exempt
Variable Products License
  • Candidates must complete an approved 8-hour prelicensing Classroom course
  • Prelicensing Course Exemption - none
